Bless them!

You can't help but admire and be affected by their optimism.

The teasing season between winter and spring

Hard, 3 foot ramps of old crystallized concrete-like snow, frozen tire tracks on dirt roads, a cold northwest wind, yet something in the light, the height of the sun, and a yearning in our hearts says this won't last.

But how much longer do we have to wait?

To get from there to here!

No matter. It's worth the wait.

An ice tent and a lace shoreline

This delicate ice tent was created by the wind but, no doubt, will soon to be destroyed by the sun.

But the wind itself will soon destroy this lacy shoreline.

Someday soon it will get warm ..........

Woof Woof.  This is not exactly what I had in mind when you said "Lets go out to camp."

We hope the snow is retreating and the sand advancing and not the other way around.

But will the beach pea even reappear?

The morning after

What's not to like about snow?
Well, it's a little hard on turkeys.
But fun for the rest of us, some of whom like to play "King of the Mountain".

It was a dark and stormy day

Hey, I didn't sign up for this duty. I'm out of here! Where's the open water?

Didn't we just shovel the porch an hour ago?

In the end, it took a lot of tools - and toys to get us through the day. Everything and everyone either slowed down or came to a stop. The power of the snow was compelling, drawing us out to experience it up close and personal, to greet our neighbors in the middle of the un-plowed road, to talk, and laugh and confirm that everyone was alright.  It is not in our nature, as Robert Frost so eloquently says:

"To go with the drift of things,
To yield with a grace to reason."
Yesterday we did.

Smile, spring will come, but not this week.

I did not agree to this! This is dog abuse. Take me inside please - NOW!

The morning after

There use to be a sidewalk here. We can only hope it will reappear this spring. Surely the sidewalk plow will never find it.

Then there is the utility box which disappeared over a month ago..... and below that there are daffodil and crocus bulbs. I hope they don't get too discouraged.
